Alterna Energía has been awarded two new projects in El Salvador and Costa Rica with which it expects to increase its international business revenue to 2 million euros in 2022.
Until now, Alterna Energía already had four operation and maintenance contracts for solar plants in Latin America: a 39 MW plant located in Mexico, two 1.8 MW plants in El Salvador, and another 420 kW plant in Costa Rica.

Alterna Energía, a specialist in photovoltaic self-consumption installations for businesses, has invoiced over 1 million euros to date from its plants located outside Spain, specifically in Latin America. In this way, the company’s international business segment has quadrupled compared to the figures recorded in the same period of 2019.

In addition, the company has been awarded two new projects in El Salvador and another in Costa Rica that add to those already underway in the region and with which the company’s international revenue is expected to grow to 2 million euros in 2022. These new international contracts consolidate Alterna Energía’s activity abroad, where an increasing number of companies are opting for self-consumption with large-scale installations.

As Esther Morlanes, Director of Alterna Energía, points out: “The new contracts in Mexico, El Salvador, and Costa Rica strengthen our growth in the Latin American market, one of those with the greatest potential in the photovoltaic sector. They also confirm our country’s leadership in the field of self-consumption and our capacity to export know-how and experience in the operation and maintenance of this type of installation, to support companies and administrations that are committed to solar technology for their energy transition.”

Until now, Alterna Energía had four operation and maintenance contracts for solar plants in Latin America: a 39 MW plant located in Mexico, two 1.8 MW plants in El Salvador, and another 420 kW plant in Costa Rica.

The plant has 114,160 photovoltaic modules in Kambul

Alterna Energía’s largest operation and maintenance project outside Spanish territory is the 39 MW photovoltaic generation plant located on the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico. The plant belongs to a leading photovoltaic energy producer in France with a significant international presence. With a surface area of 30 hectares and a generation capacity of 60,000 MWh annually, the plant has 114,160 photovoltaic modules, its own substation, and evacuation line. The electricity it produces is distributed through the country’s national electrical grid.

Alterna Energía also has operation and maintenance contracts for photovoltaic self-consumption plants located in El Salvador with 1.8 MW of capacity, along with another 420 kW solar plant located in Costa Rica. In this case, the production is used to cover part of the energy needs of the companies that own the installations, and the surplus is fed into the grid.

45 MW of photovoltaic generation capacity from Alterna Energía throughout Latin America

Alterna Energía’s four installations in Latin America total 43 MW of photovoltaic generation capacity, to which are added 2 MW from the new photovoltaic generation project in El Salvador and another self-consumption project with batteries in Costa Rica, which will contribute to further increasing the revenue of its international business.

At each plant, the company has a team of local technicians responsible for preventive maintenance, supervision, and cleaning of solar panels and other installation components. Meanwhile, operation and monitoring are carried out from the Alterna Energía Control Center in Barcelona, which manages all of the company’s photovoltaic projects at national and international levels.
