Alterna Energía and Frimercat Group complete their fourth photovoltaic project

Alterna energia

In total, 4 photovoltaic projects have been developed: Frimercat 1 (2019), Frimercat 4 and Interfrisa (2022), and MercaEurofrio (2023).

The projects, located in the Barcelonès region, have a total capacity of 1750 Wp, which will generate approximately 2,016 MWh per year.

Only the first three installations have saved nearly 1,200 tons of CO2 emissions in recent years.

Alterna Energía, a company specializing in the development of comprehensive self-consumption photovoltaic solutions for businesses, has developed its fourth photovoltaic installation for Frimercat Group, one of the largest cold storage service operators nationally and in Europe. This latest installation, like the previous ones, is located in Barcelona and El Prat de Llobregat.

Specifically, for companies like Frimercat Group, which offer cold storage services and therefore have constant energy consumption, photovoltaic solutions are a timely option as they can utilize renewable energy consumption throughout the day.

For companies that offer cold storage services and therefore have constant energy consumption, photovoltaic solutions are very appealing as renewable production can be utilized throughout the day.

Over the past four years, Alterna Energía has completed a total of 4 photovoltaic installations for the Group: Two projects for Frimercat: Frimercat 1, the first project in 2019, and Frimercat 4 in 2022; another project for Interfrisa also in 2022; and finally for MercaEurofrio, the most recent, completed in 2023. The installations, with capacities of 375 Wp, 455 Wp, 460 Wp, and 460 Wp, respectively, are expected to generate an average of up to 2,016 MWh of energy annually. Furthermore, according to data collected by the company, the first three installations alone have prevented the emission of nearly 1,200 tons of CO2.

The MercaEurofrio project consists of a total of 653 modules across 2,532 m2 of roof space and features a coplanar structure with panel rib fastening. This installation is estimated to generate an average of 388.8 MWh of energy annually.

Esther Morlanes, director of Alterna Energía, explains that “Frimercat’s commitment to sustainability is extremely high, and they demonstrate this through the development of these types of installations.” In turn, Jordi Fabregat, General Manager of Frimercat Group, expresses his confidence in Alterna Energía, which is why Alterna is the group’s main supplier for renewable investments.

Self-consumption photovoltaic projects offer multiple advantages for businesses, ranging from savings in energy costs to increased competitiveness through a more optimized offering. Photovoltaic installations directly contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, helping to curb climate change and bringing us closer to the objectives established at a European level and those outlined in the 2030 Agenda. In turn, having these types of installations facilitates the differentiation of our company and strengthens the organization’s corporate social responsibility, allowing us to reach a more engaged audience and access a growing market niche.
